Cable fault causes Eurostar disruptions

Thousands of Eurostar passengers have faced disruption after services were delayed by an overhead power cable fault in France.

Last night, some passengers were delayed or ‘stuck on trains’ for up to nine hours and disruptions are expected to last well into today.

Four services were cancelled yesterday on the London St Pancras to Paris line and another four have been cancelled today.

The Eurotunnel car shuttle service has not been affected.

It has been reported that a ‘sagging overhead cable’ meant trains had to be switched from high speed lines to slower ones.

A Eurostar spokeswoman said:

“We are trying to do everything we can to get passengers to their destination. We are doing everything we can to make their journey as comfortable as possible.”
