Indian Railways revenue up by 10%

Indian Railways has reported revenue of $18.2 billion (Rs 92985.50) from April 2011 to February 2012, a growth of 10.17%.

In the same period last year, the operator reported $17 billion (Rs 84402.34) in revenue.

From transporting goods, Railways earned close to $ 12.5 billion (Rs 62171.49), against $ 11 billion earned in the same period last year, showing an increase of 10.24%.

During the period, total passenger revenue earnings were $5 billion (Rs 25858.14 crore), as compared to $4.2 billion (Rs 23600.35 crore), registering an increase of 9.57 per cent.

The revenue earnings from other coaching increased by 12.45 per cent, amounting to $500 million (Rs 2580.32 crore) during April 2011- February 2012, as against $425 million (Rs 2294.71 crore) during the same period last financial year.

More than 7586.82 million passengers booked during April 2011-February 2012, compared to 7210.94 million during the same period last financial year, showing an increase of 5.21%.

In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during the period was 4007.72 million and 3579.10 million, compared to 3864.61 million and 2996.96 million during the same period last financial year, showing an increase of 3.70% and 6.96% respectively.
