QR National has extended its relationship with Southern Cross Fertilisers, a wholly owned subsidiary of Incitec Pivot Limited (IPL), signing two long-term haulage agreements in north-west Queensland.

The Rail Haulage Agreements include the transport of sulphuric acid from Sun Metals and IPL’s Mount Isa plant to Phosphate Hill and formed sulphur from the Port of Townsville to Mount Isa.

The contract for sulphuric acid haulage is an extension of an existing contract with Southern Cross Fertilisers and incorporates increased tonnages, while the sulphur contract is a new contract.

QR National Vice President Marketing of Bulk, Darrin Rawson-Harris says the company has been working closely with Southern Cross Fertilisers to understand and meet long term haulage requirements for their northern Australian operations.

“The contracts that we have signed with Southern Cross Fertilisers are flexible which gives the customer various options about which products it wants to move”, he said.

Vice President Northern Australia Manufacturing for IPL Gerrish Burstow said the long term haulage agreements with QR National have increased flexibility through additional services and longer trains.

He says this will deliver significant operational efficiency gains – an important factor in meeting customers’ ongoing requirements.
