Mott MacDonald, as part of a consortium led by ERM, and including Temple Group, has won two major Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) contracts by HS2 Ltd for the proposed high speed rail line.

Awarded two of the four contracts under Lot 3 Environmental Services of HS2 Ltd’s Professional Services Framework, the consortium will work closely with HS2 Ltd’s environment, design and engineering teams to help reduce the environmental impacts of the scheme.

This will cover the London metropolitan area and Rural South section of the route covering Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire. The contracts began on 22nd March and will continue up to the deposit of the hybrid bill by the end of 2013.

In the early stages of the work each company will carry out environmental surveys for allocated sections of the route, including an assessment of the natural environment – biodiversity, water resources, geology and visual impact.

Assessments will also be carried out on the the historic environment, the built environment – townscape, traffic and transport, waste and resources and planning policy; and the community – noise, air quality, community and property and agriculture.

This work will contribute to the Environmental Statement, which will be deposited along with other documents in Parliament for the hybrid bill.
