The Coalition Government has completed the installation of boom barriers to improve safety at the Nelson Street, California Gully and Prouses Road, Bendigo North level crossings between Bendigo and Eaglehawk.

Minister for Public Transport Terry Mulder said that these level crossings were upgraded at a cost of $945,000 under the Coalition Government’s ongoing level crossing upgrade program.

“The crossings have been upgraded with boom barriers adding to the previous flashing lights and warning bells, markedly improving safety for people who use the crossings,” Mr Mulder said.

“The pedestrian crossings at these locations now meet DDA requirements. They now have new fencing, signs and asphalt across the tracks to make crossing easy for residents using bicycles, prams, wheelchairs and scooters. Both pedestrian crossings now have tactile tiles installed to assist the vision impaired.”

Mr Mulder said that there were at least 43 publicly timetabled V/Line passenger trains and a varying number of Pacific National grain trains through these Swan Hill line level crossings every week, as well as occasional works trains.
