‘Reckless’ rail youths sought by police in Nottinghamshire

British Transport Police is attempting to trace three youths who ‘deliberately forced train doors open before climbing off a train and walking down the tracks’ near Trowell Junction in Nottingham.

Officers have released images of the two girls and one boy they would like to trace in connection with the incident, which took place on Sunday, 26 February 2012 on the 21.37 Liverpool Lime Street to Nottingham service.

The service was stationary at the time of the incident due to signalling problems in the area.

Investigating officer PC Joseph Jenkins said:

“Clearly disregarding the safety of others and themselves, the three youths pulled the emergency cord on the train then forced open the doors and ran down the rail tracks towards Ilkeston.

“This was a reckless act which could have quite easily resulted in someone being badly injured in addition to causing unnecessary delays to hundreds of passengers on the service.

“There are strictly-defined safety procedures governing the safety of trains which this group clearly flouted. Trespassing on the tracks is incredibly risky and can result in dire consequences.

“The railway is an extremely dangerous environment. It is vital that we identify these people.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 quoting background log NEA 5 of 11 April 2012. Information can also be passed to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
