Systra awarded Glasgow Subway contract

Systra has been appointed by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) to act as the client technical advisor for SPT’s procurement of a turnkey package of new rolling stock, signalling and train control systems, as well as a modernised control room and associated equipment.

SPT has started a full-scale modernisation programme which will deliver refurbished stations, new fully automated trains, a new smartcard ticketing system as well as improvements to the tunnels and track infrastructure.

Systra’s Project Director, Andrew Boagey said:

“Systra is very excited to be working in Glasgow; our team has been carefully selected to provide the best technical advise required for this major rail infrastructure upgrade.”

SPT’s Assistant Chief Executive (Operations), Eric Stewart added:

“SPT has been pushing ahead to deliver a fully modernised, revitalised Subway system for Scotland.

“Improvement work is ongoing and as part of that we have employed SYSTRA as our lead technical advisor to support us in the procurement of our new trains and signalling system as well as advising on the innovative solutions that will be presented to us through the tender process”
