Ansaldo STS has been awarded a contract to provide the signalling and telecommunications system for heavy rail traffic with satellite positioning, as part of the Roy Hill Iron Ore project.
The contract to deliver the first two phases of a staged signalling and communications system for the Roy Hill Iron Ore Project Mine’s 342km heavy haul rail line, in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, is worth $151 million.
The signalling solution involves centralised routing and automatic train protection (ATP) with satellite positioning.
Designed for the mine’s expected annual iron ore output of 55 million tonnes, Ansaldo STS Australia’s signalling and communications solution enables the Roy Hill Iron Ore Project to integrate and upgrade to automated heavy haul operations if required in the future.
The turnkey works include voice-based and integrated electronic train order systems, centralised interlocking, automatic train protection (ATP) with satellite-based location determination, and communication-based Hi Rail and track machine protection systems using digital communications.
