The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) has begun planned repair projects on the Light Rail and Metro Subway systems.

Metro customers should experience ‘minimal delays as a result of the system maintenance’, the operator said.

Light Rail service to five stations north of Timonium will be replaced with shuttle bus service until around June 30.

MTA crews will be replacing four grade crossings on the Light Rail line in the Hunt Valley area.

The five affected Light Rail stations are Warren Road, Gilroy Road, McCormick Road, Pepper Road, and Hunt Valley.

MTA crews will replace worn rails and install improved rail foundations. This work is needed to maintain safe, reliable operation of the line in the future. This section of the Light Rail opened in 1997 and the upcoming project is the first major work since the system opened.

On the Metro Subway, MTA will replace interlockings on the track between Reisterstown Plaza and Rogers Avenue stations. The project is expected to last until early July.

The project includes replacing the switch machines and mechanics, rails and the replacement of wooden rail ties with concrete ties and corresponding foundation.

During the repair work Metro trains will share a single track through the work area, but passengers should experience ‘minimal delays’.
