Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd and Toshiba Corp have won an order to supply a further four Series 700T trainsets with 12 cars each as well as electrical equipment for Taiwan’s high speed rail network.

The two companies said they will start supplying the train cars and equipment by the end of this year to railway operator Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp.

Toshiba will provide electrical equipment and on-board systems whilst Kawasaki will be responsible for design of the aluminium car bodyshells and bogies.

Kawasaki said train cars will run on around 345km of tracks from Taipei to the southwestern city of Kaohsiung.

They will also be deployed on a roughly 5.7km line, estimated to open in 2015, from Taipei to Nangang in the capital’s southeast.
