Balfour Beatty has been awarded contracts with Network Rail and BAE Systems in Scotland which together could potentially be worth more than £23 million.

Working for BAE Systems, Balfour Beatty Regional Civil Engineering (BBRCE) will carry out the £7.2 million construction of a new access road in its Bishopton development, including a bridge over the existing railway.

The project is a significant element of BAE Systems’ long-term project.

The overall site is being developed for a mix of residential, retail and commercial use and will include a new junction on the M8.

Network Rail has awarded BBRCE a £6.1 million contract for platform refurbishment of seven Network Rail stations: Blair Atholl, Bowling, Cambuslang, Crosshill, Dingwall, Maybole and Motherwell.

Additionally, Network Rail has awarded BBRCE the Access for All Framework – Scotland (Package 3), which has a total potential value of £10 million.

Starting with a £2 million contract to upgrade Perth Station the works are designed to improve disabled access for up to six stations.

BBRCE regional managing director Adam Thomson said: “We are delighted with the award of the contracts. The important work we will carry out in Bishopton will help to start the regeneration of a disused site and we hope that success with this contract will lead to further opportunities with BAE Systems.

“The award of contracts by Network Rail will allow us to build on the relationship we have developed over the past 10 years.”
