The design concept for the new Hokuriku to Kanazawa high-speed train has been revealed.
The new Hokuriku Shinkansen railcars, which are being developed jointly by JR East and JR West, will feature a 12-car configuration, with a maximum operating speed of 260 km/h.
Among the special features, the new railcars will also be equipped with an improved braking system which shortens stopping distances to protect passengers in the event of an earthquake.
Announcing the new design, the East Japan Railway Company said: “We have decided to express “refinement” by generating new value through the fusion of Japanese traditions and cutting-edge technology.
“This concept embodies our aspirations to link Japan’s traditional culture and the future by connecting the areas along the Hokuriku Shinkansen with the Tokyo metropolitan area going forward.”
The first railcars are scheduled for completion in autumn 2013 for JR East and spring 2014 for JR West.
