Thales has been awarded a 33 million euro contract to supply a state-of-the-art signalling system for the Nanjing airport rail link.

The 35.8km line will become a vital link for Nanjing in 2014 when the city host the Youth Olympic Games.

The city is planning to open four new lines before the Games, with a possible 57.3km extension to the Nanjing airport rail link.

Thales has already supplied signalling solutions to Shanghai, Beijing, Wuhan, Guangzhou and Hong-Kong Metro.

Thales’ CBTC system has been proven on 53 projects to date and operates on over 1,200 km of track in major urban centres around the world, carrying an estimated three billion passengers annually
