Landmark contract signed between DB and PESA

Deutsche Bahn and Polish manufacturer PESA have signed framework contracts for the possible supply of up to 470 diesel railcars.

The contract, which could be worth as much as 1.2 billion euros, sets out the supply of up to 120 one and two-part vehicles with a maximum speed of 120 km/h to 350 one, two and three-car vehicles with a maximum speed of 140 km/h

The contracts will be valid for five years to December 2018 with a possible extension to December 2020.

A signing ceremony was held at the InnoTrans trade fair in Berlin, with Dr Volker Kefer, senior executive infrastructure and engineering, Ulrich Homburg, senior executive passenger transport for Deutsche Bahn, Robert Świechowicz, senior executive finance, and Marcin Jędryczka, senior executive marketing and Ddvelopment for PESA.

Dr Volker Kefer said: “This is the first major contract to be concluded for Deutsche Bahn with the Polish manufacturer PESA for the supply of rail vehicles.

“With regard to the German market it is an important strategic objective for us to expand to expand competition in this sector and to strengthen it. With this contract we have created an important prerequisite for achieving these aims.”
