Siemens presents Inspiro for Warsaw network

Siemens has presented the first new Inspiro metro train for Warsaw’s underground rail network at InnoTrans 2012.

Managing director of Siemens, Dr. Hans-Jörg Grundmann, said: “Warsaw will have the world’s most advanced metro system.”

In attendance was the mayor of Warsaw and the managing director of the Warsaw underground train operating company.

In early 2011, the operators of Warsaw’s underground rail system placed a 272 million euro order for 35 trains comprising of six carriages each from a consortium made up of Siemens and the Polish manufacturer Newag.

The order signalled the start of a rejuvenation of Poland’s underground network.

One of the two trains due to be delivered for test purposes by the end of the year is currently on show at InnoTrans 2012.

The first 10 trains will be built at the Siemens works in Vienna, and the remaining 25 trainsets will be assembled by Newag in Nowy SÄ…cz in Poland.
