Organisers of the InnoTrans trade fair will be hoping to build on this year’s success when they return to the Messe Berlin in two year’s time after welcoming a record number of trade visitors in Berlin last week.

Around 125,000 trade visitors from more than 100 countries attended InnoTrans 2012, around 20 per cent more than in 2010.

The 2012 exhibition also experienced a rise in exhibitor numbers, double the number of world premieres, contract announcements totalling more than 1.8 billion euros, and for the first time in the show’s history the grounds were fully booked.

Dr Christian Göke, chief operating officer of Messe Berlin GmbH, said: “InnoTrans 2012 not only underlined but further cemented its reputation as the world’s leading event for this sector.

“The conclusion of business worth millions of euros and the presentation of the rail industry’s entire value chain speak for themselves. Exhibitor and trade visitor numbers increased significantly, adding yet another chapter to the unparalleled success story of InnoTrans.”

Philippe Citroën, Director General of the Association of the European Rail Industry (UNIFE), said: “InnoTrans has once more surpassed our expectations.

“The sheer buzz in and around the exhibition halls, the vast number of world premieres, the density of fascinating innovation on display, the vibrant exchange among the decision-makers of our sector – all this truly made InnoTrans 2012 a memorable event. It shows the vitality of the global rail supply industry, which we found in the data gathered in our World Rail Market Study – and now find it brought to life at this extraordinary event here in Berlin.

“InnoTrans is the ultimate rail experience – our compliments go out to the organizers, who set the bar for InnoTrans 2014 extremely high.”
