New CCTV system for Rio metro

MetroÌ‚Rio’s analogue CCTV system is to be overhauled in time for the 2016 Olympic Games.

Edinburgh-based IndigoVision will provide 141 fixed IP cameras and 21 PTZ cameras for Rio de Janeiro’s metro system.

As well as the new cameras, approximately 700 existing analogue cameras that have been integrated into the system using IndigoVision encoders.

Newton Werneck, CIO of MetroÌ‚Rio, said: “IndigoVision’s image quality is excellent, and the distributed architecture of the system will allow the surveillance network to grow along with the metro system.”

Founded in 1979 with five stations operating on one line, MetrôRio is now divided into two lines and serviced by 35 stations.
