Organisers of the Rail Vehicle Enhancements (RVE) 2012 exhibition are preparing for an even bigger event next year after successful shows in London and Derby.

The two-day event earlier this month saw industry leaders, including TOCs, franchise bidders and Rolling stock operating companies, meet to learn about the latest developments in rail technology.

Visitors were able to drive the Cubris GreenSpeed driver simulator, see the h2gogo DMU hydrogen generator, witness live video feeds from R2P CCTV equipment on service trains, feel the chill of DC Airco cab cooling equipment, and experience the Volo in-train entertainment and advanced passenger information systems.

Other exhibitors included Westermo, Infodev and LED lighting experts McGeoch.

Matt Phillips, business development director for ESG, said: “As a leading consultancy for enhancements within the traction and rolling stock marketplace RVE 2012 was ideal for us as it is an excellent opportunity for our consultants and engineers to come and look at leading suppliers of technology products all in one room all in one day. It enabled us to look at the offerings not as an individual offerings but as a whole package.”

The event was organised by Onyxrail, an installer of technical enhancements, alongside sponsors Rail Media Group, the Rail Alliance & Modern Railways.

Onyxrail displayed UIC castings produced by its sister company Brentto Industry.

Speaking prior to the event, Onyxrail managing director Kevin Lane said the main aim was to bring “high-quality suppliers to the customer”.

He added: “It’s a very exciting time for the railway at the moment. We’re right in the middle of the process of new franchising bids, a lot of things need to be done to trains; uplifts of a technical nature, enhancements to trains and what we’ve done is we’ve pulled together all of the key and interesting leading suppliers in areas of key technologies.”

The RVE 2012 website, which will be live until next year’s event, includes downloadable product and exhibitor information.
