Georgian Railways buys five new trains as part of fleet renewal

JSC Georgian Railway (GR) has purchased five new electric trains as part of a large-scale investment programme to replace the entire fleet of main line trains by the middle of 2013.

Chinese rolling stock manufacturer CSR beat Bombardier, Skoda and Stadler to win the contract.

In 2009, GR ordered three new electric trains.

The final stage of works and testing off the new fleet will be carried out in Tbilisi Locomotive Depot.
