The Transport Select Committee is to hold a fifth evidence session in its Rail 2020 inquiry into reforming the railways.

Committee chair Louise Ellman MP said: “In March this year the Government published its strategy to reform the railways, ‘Putting the Customer First’.

“On Monday, we will be asking the minister and the regulator what progress they are making.

“If overcrowding is to be reduced and above-inflation fares increases are to end, the Government needs to demonstrate that it can deliver on its promises and make the rail industry more efficient, despite the current problems of the West Coast franchise competition and delays in signing the Thameslink rolling stock contract.”
