Indian Railways revenue up 19%

Indian Railways has posted a 19.72 per cent increase in revenue earnings at $12.55 billion, between April-October 2012, compared to $10.48 billion in the same period last year.

Earnings from goods and freight for the period have increased by almost a quarter from $6.96 billion last year to $8.63 billion in 2012.

The total passenger revenue earnings during first seven months of this financial year was recorded at $3.29 billion compared to $2.98 billion during the same period last year, registering an increase of 10.49 per cent.

The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to $325.97 million during April-October 2012 compared to $295.99 million during the same period last year, an increase of 10.10 per cent.

During the period, passengers booking increased to five billion, up from 4.8 billion in 2011.
