Austin’s rail authority is extending services this weekend ahead of the United States Grand Prix.

As well as additional trains and later services, Capital Metro has launched a new mobile app that turns passenger’s phones into a transit pass.

Capital Metro’s president Linda Watson said: “Formula 1 is going to be an exciting event for our area, but also a significant challenge to our local infrastructure and mobility.

“That’s why we’ve spent months working with the city, the event organisers, and other stakeholders to ensure we have the best plan in place for moving this volume of people efficiently and safely around the city. Aside from a personal helicopter, Capital Metro will be the best option for getting around town during F1 week.

“The level of community support has been wonderful, and we’re grateful to our partners who are helping to fund the expanded service.”
