Two new Alstom Citadis trainsets took centre stage in the inauguration of Lyon’s T5 tramway.

Bernard Rivalta, president of the transport union of the Lyon urban area (SYTRAL), Gérard Collomb, Senator and Mayor of Lyon, and Hubert Peugeot, vice-president, sales, Alstom Transport France, all attended the event on November 17.

The new trams, which will run on the T3 tramway from December, have taken Lyon’s fleet of Citadis vehicles to 85 – the third largest fleet in France.

Alstom said the mirrored livery is based on the trainsets which began service on Lyon’s network after the inauguration of the T3 line in 2006.

The trams are designed and assembled at the Alstom plant in La Rochelle. Other operations take part in the production process, including the Villeurbanne site with nearly 700 employees in charge of on-board information systems, as well as the Ornans site for motors, the Le Creusot site for bogies and the Tarbes site for electric and electronic traction equipment.
