New Russian locomotive contract signed

Russian rail officials have signed a contract that will see the delivery of around 900 locomotives onto the country’s network by 2020.

Last week, president of Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin, president of Sinara Group Dmirtiy Pumpyansky and president of Siemens AG Peter Löscher signed the new contract in the presence of the Russian Federation and Federal Republic of Germany top officials.

Russian Railways has agreed to purchase 221 2ES10 electric locomotives from manufacturer Uralskiye Locomotivy Ltd by the end of 2016. As well as 675 electric freight locomotives between 2016-20.

The agreement was signed in the Kremlin during talks chaired by Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
