German train operator Hessische Landesbahn (HLB) has signed a 40 million euro deal with Alstom to supply seven Coradia Lint regional trains and overhaul 25 already in service.

Both the new trains and modernised fleet, which will begin service in 2015, will run on the Eifel-Westerwald-Sieg network.

Martin Lange, member of the board of Alstom Deutschland AG and managing director of Alstom Transport Germany, said: “These new orders follow a long and successful partnership between Alstom and HLB.

“The award of both the supply of new trains and the refitting of existing ones demonstrates Alstom’s leadership and expertise in manufacturing state-of-the-art regional trains and in providing fleet renovation, modernisation and complete overhaul services.”

The new Coradia Lint is a two-car Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) that can run at a speed of 120 km per hour.

The trains will be manufactured in Alstom’s plant in Salzgitter, while the modernisation will be carried out at Alstom Trains Life Services in Braunschweig, both in Germany.
