Plays stressing the do’s and don’ts of construction site safety are being used by India’s biggest metro operator the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
Between now and 2016, 300 plays will be performed at Delhi Metro sites until the completion of Phase 3 of the current extension project.
DMRC said the plays have been introduced to deliver necessary safety instructions in an entertaining way.
“Taking safety as the priority, DMRC has made mandatory for every worker to undergo mandatory safety training and the safety officers deputed at the sites always keep a very strict vigil to ensure compliance to the safety regulations before joining work at construction sites,” a DMRC official told Rail.co.
“The plays have been scripted specifically to convey all the important messages related to construction site safety and etiquette.”
“A pictorial safety handbook written in Hindi will also be distributed to the workers during the staging of these plays,” DMRC said in a release.
DMRC has a history of using street plays (nukkad nataks) to convey important messages related to public safety.
Similar campaigns have been run in the past to warn the public about the dangers of stone throwing and flying kites too close to the network.
