Trains are running on Denver’s new West Rail Line for the first time ahead of the route’s official opening in April.

A train ran the entire length of the line earlier this month in the first phase of testing.

“This is a huge milestone for RTD as the test train will be operating under its own power – the first for the West Rail Line,” said West Rail Line project manager Jim Starling.

“Testing will continue for the next few months leading to the opening of the rail line on April 26.”

The West Rail Line will operate between Denver Union Station, in downtown Denver, and the Jefferson County Government Center, in Golden.

The 12.1-mile West Rail Line is the first rail line of RTD’s FasTracks project to start construction and will be the first to open to the public – eight months ahead of the original schedule.

Transport authorities in Colorado are investing $6.5 billion in public transport as part of the FasTracks Program, including the construction of 122 miles of new rail and light rail track.
