First Lastochka services set to begin

The president of Russian Railways will be in St Petersburg later this month for the launch of the first Lastochka train service.

In 2014, Lastochka trains will transport passengers to and from the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

On January 23, Vladimir Yakunin and representatives from the Russian Federation will be in Moscow station for the launch of the new train.

The Lastochka’s first services will run between St Petersburg, Chudovo, Novgorod-on-Volkhov and St. Petersburg, Chudovo, Bologoye.

Russian Railways’ has ordered 54 Lastochka trains from Siemens.

Delivery of the first 38 EMUs is due to be completed by November 2013.
