Work starts on Boston's Assembly station

Construction work has begun on a new station on Boston’s Orange Line subway.

Assembly Square Station will serve the transformed Somerville district – the site of a proposed large-scale, mixed-use redevelopment project.

Due to be completed in autumn 2014, work has already been completed on track infrastructure to allow construction of theAssembly South Entrance 2011.07.07 800 new station’s platforms.

Since January, installation of the concrete piles has been carried out during Orange Line weekend diversions.

The concrete piles will support the new southbound tracks and platform areas of the future Assembly Station.
