Drivers have begun test runs along the newest section of Manchester Metrolink’s Oldham line extension.

Trams will be travelling between Shaw and Crompton and Rochdale railway station as part of the network’s driver training programme.

The trams will not be carrying passengers during this period.

The Oldham line will soon be extended to Rochdale with the opening of five new Metrolink stops – Newhey, Milnrow, Kingsway, Newbold and Rochdale Railway Station.

The project will conclude with the opening of a Rochdale Town Centre stop in 2014.

Peter Cushing, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) Metrolink Director, said: “These tests are another important stage of getting Metrolink up-and-running in Rochdale.

“I am grateful for the patience of the community as we move forward with the extension of the Oldham-Rochdale line to the town.”
