The new 29 million euro Strasshof station has opened in Lower Austria.

The project has included the construction of a new underpass, allowing two lanes of traffic to pass beneath the station, as well as platform renewal works and the introduction of barrier-free access.

Franz Seiser, board member of ÖBB-Holding AG, said: “Every station and every stop we in sense of customer orientation modernise, renew and barrier-free design is an important step to make the train Strasshof OBB 2travel as comfortable and easy as possible.”

The project was completed with funds from a federal stimulus package.

Seiser said that in the next six years, ÖBB will be investing 3 billion euros in rail infrastructure in Lower Austria alone.

As well as station refurbishment, investment in the region includes the new high-speed route from St Pölten to Vienna and the construction of the Semmering base tunnel.

Federal Minister for Transport, Innovation and Technology Doris Bures said: “By investing in modern railway stations and in the expansion of routes and by the intelligent combination of private and public transport, we provide a modern, efficient and environmentally friendly transport system.”
