British consultancy Mott MacDonald is to act as detailed design engineer for six new stations along the new Hyderabad metro system.

The 71 km Hyderabad metro network – which is under construction in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India – will include three lines and 66 stations.

Mott MacDonald will provide architectural, structural, and public health design services for three interchange stations at Ameerpet, Parade Grounds and the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station.

The consultancy will also design three other stations located at Panjagutta, Hi-Tech City, and Jubilee Hills Checkpost.

Karthikeyan Ramalingam, Mott MacDonald’s project director, said: “Mass Rapid Transit System has become a key area for infrastructure development in the major cities of India.

“At present, metro projects are being implemented in seven Indian cities and Mott MacDonald is involved in all of these.

“Our appointment builds upon our existing work for Larsen and Toubro as detailed design consultants on the Chennai Metro Rail project.”

Construction of the entire scheme is due to be completed by the end of 2017.

Almost half of the energy required to run the new system will be produced through regenerative braking.
