East Coast rail services have restarted between King’s Cross and Peterborough after a kilometre of overhead line equipment came down at St Neots in Cambridgeshire.
Two of the four lines affected by the fallen lines have opened to diesel traffic, allowing a limited service to run, and this afternoon electric trains have restarted, coasting through the damaged area.
More than 100 more were left stranded at King’s Cross last night, with reports that many slept on an affected train after refusing to get off.
Network Rail has said engineers will return tonight to continue repair work.
