Designs for new Moscow trams and metro trains have been unveiled in Hannover by project partners Bombardier and UVZ.
The concepts, which have gone on show at the Hannover Trade Fair this week, are part of a programme at the centre of growing industrial relations between Germany and Russia.
Russia is rapidly modernising its transportation infrastructure ahead of hosting a series of international sporting events leading up to 2018 (including Formula One, the Winter Olympics and the world football championship).
Bombardier says the new metro trains are designed to significantly increase passenger exchange at stations and reduce energy consumption and maintenance costs compared to the current fleet.
“Our partnership with Bombardier Transportation, that started last year, has already brought first results – we won a tender for the supply of modern trams for Moscow,” said Oleg Sienko, General Director of UVZ.
“Today, we confirmed our serious intentions to work on an upcoming tender for the supply of modern metro trains for the Moscow Metro.”
In December 2012, UVZ signed a contract with the Moscow City Transport Agency to deliver 120 low-floor Flexity trams manufactured by UVZ.
A mock up of a tram driver’s cab for Linz has been installed at the Russian Federation stand in Hannover.
Linz has awarded four tram contracts to Bombardier, including an order in 2009 for 23 low-floor light rail vehicles.
