Stadler’s IK – the rolling stock manufacturer’s first underground train for Berlin – is to be unveiled at the UITP World Congress at the end of May.

A full-size mock up of the new metro train will be on show in Geneva between May 26-30.

Last July, Stadler Pankow, the German arm of the Swiss Stadler Rail Group, won the tender for the IK series underground trains for Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG).

The initial order was for two preliminary series vehicles with an option for another 34 underground trains.

The underground order is the first of its kind for Stadler.

The two preliminary series vehicles will be put into service on Berlin underground routes U1 to U4 in 2015.

The UITP congress will be the first opportunity for international industry professionals to view the model of the new IK underground train.
