East Didsbury – the newest stop on the South Manchester tram line – has opened to passengers.

Five new stops have been constructed along the line at Withington, Burton Road, West Didsbury, Didsbury Village and East Didsbury as part of the 4.4km extension project.

The first tram left East Didsbury at 5.49am this morning.

Councillor Andrew Fender, Chair of the Transport for Greater Manchester Committee, said: “This new line is a great addition to our ever-growing Metrolink network and will give people a new and exciting way to experience all the vibrant things that South Manchester has to offer.”

The Manchester Metrolink network now stretches for 73.4 km around the city.
