The UK isn’t short of long-since-retired rail infrastructure in need of revitalisation.

There are creative examples of rail renovation everywhere. Railway arches are now sought after for office space and ghost Tube stations the site of future tourist traps.

The Royal Institute of British Architects’ (RIBA) annual Forgotten Spaces exhibition is a showcase for obscure urban regeneration concepts and at the centre of many is Britain’s railways.

Over the last three years, proposals have included transforming an abandoned Tube station into a Roman-style baths and installing an indoor garden under the roof of the old Eurostar terminal at Waterloo.

The gallery above has a selection of the architectural visions looking to revive deceased corners of the UK’s railway.
