New York subway operator MTA has reopened Central Avenue station following an $11 million refurbishment.

The station, which has been closed for the last five months, is one of five stations undergoing a significant overhaul on the city’s Myrtle Avenue line.

Work included reconstruction of the station’s control house, replacement of stairs and canopies, and other structural repairs.

Acting NYC Transit President Carmen Bianco said: “We’re happy to return the Central Avenue station to the nearly 3,500 daily customers in Bushwick who once again, have access to a one-seat ride into Manhattan.

“This station is vastly improved thanks to the investments of the MTA Capital Program, and we look forward to completing work at three other stations along the Myrtle Avenue Line in the near future.”

Around $47 million has been provided by the FTA to upgrade five stations along the M line. Improvements at Knickerbocker Avenue station were completed in February, with further work planned at Seneca Avenue, Forest Avenue and Fresh Pond Road.
