The German government has approved plans to increase surveillance in railway stations over the next six years.
Around 36 million euro will be invested by the government to allow Deutsche Bahn (DB) and the federal police to install more cameras in stations and trains around the country.
Announcing the agreement, Federal Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich said: “The proven trusting cooperation between the federal police and the Deutsche Bahn AG is in progress.
“This agreement makes a significant contribution to improve the safety of the citizens.”
Dr Rüdiger Grube, chief executive of DB, said: “Even if our trains and stations are already safe places, we want to invest more in the safety of our passengers and further strengthen their sense of security.”
