Siemens’ new Inspiro metro has begun transporting passengers on Warsaw’s underground network.
Having gained certification at the end of September, the first train has now been officially launched on Line 1 of the Warsaw Metro by Mayor of Warsaw Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz Jerzy Lejk, chief executive of the Warsaw Metro, and Jochen Eickholt, chief executive of Siemens Rail Systems.
Warsaw Metro placed the very first order with Siemens for its new Inspiro design in February 2011 when it agreed to purchase 35 new six-car trains from the rolling stock manufacturer.

The 272 million euro order is being delivered by Siemens and Polish manufacturer Newag. The first 10 trains are being built by Siemens in Vienna, and the remaining 25 trainsets will be assembled by Newag in Nowy Sącz.
Eickholt said: “It is always a proud moment for us at Siemens to see a vision come true – and officially turn it over for public service. And this particular project – the Warsaw Inspiro – is especially important.
“It was the first order worldwide for our new metro generation. And it was the biggest order Siemens has ever received in Poland. Just as important, the Inspiro marks the beginning of a new partnership in Poland.”
