Fresh look for TGV’s onboard catering

SNCF has said it hopes that eating on the train will become ‘a pleasure’ after announcing a new partnership to revamp catering onboard its high-speed TGV.

The French rail operator has signed up Newrest and Elior to manage catering services on its trains. The joint venture has been given the responsibility of improving the quality of the products and services on offer, as well as training staff and improving food and drink sales.

The new service was launched on TGV trains earlier this month and from January next year, Newrest and Elior will begin modernising dining cars across the fleet.

Brands such as Illy, Michel & Augustin and Innocent will all be offered as part of the new service. Retailer Monoprix and restaurant chain Boco have also come up with products and new menus for train customers.

SNCF has said that prices will remain broadly the same, with some actually expected to fall. However, the operator has admitted that the cost of some first class services will increase.
