Big reveal for first Aubagne tram

Alstom has unveiled the first of a new fleet of Citadis Compact trams, complete with distinctive livery, for the city of Aubagne.

City dignitaries and artist Hervé Di Rosa were invited to Alstom’s La Rochelle site to see the first completed vehicle, which is currently undergoing testing, as part of an order agreed in 2011 for eight new trams.

The Pays d’Aubagne et de l’Etoile region will be the first to operate Citadis Compact trams – a system designed to ‘meet the needs of mobility in intermediate-sized cities’, says Alstom.

One of the most striking elements of the Aubagne tram is its livery, which was specially designed by Hervé Di Rosa with the help of local schoolchildren.

Seven more trams are currently being built and there is also an option to extend the order by an extra five to 10 vehicles.
