Welsh transport minister Edwina Hart has announced that an implementation group is to be set up to draw up timetables and costings for the introduction of an hourly service between Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth.

Currently the line has a basic two hourly service during the day, dividing and combining at Machynlleth, with one portion for Aberystwyth and the other portion for Pwllheli.

The latest development comes after a campaign by user groups and Welshpool Town Council to improve the frequency of services along the route.

Ms Hart said she would like to see the new services starting as soon as possible.
