Trial runs are underway on the first section of Phase III of the Delhi Metro.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) began testing between Central Secretariat and Mandi House on December 30 and believe that the first three kilometre stretch could open by the end of March – six months ahead of the original October 2014 start date.

By opening the first section of the new metro line between Central Secretariat and Kashmere Gate, DMRC hope to relieve pressure on Rajiv Chowk station.

Construction work began on the Violet line  in December 2011.
