Trenitalia has launched a new scheme offering discounted fare to Aegean Airlines passengers.

Passengers flying with the Greek airline who arrive in Rome, Milan or Venice will be able to purchase cheaper tickets on Frecciarossa, Frecciargento or Frecciabianca services if they travel on the same day.

The initiative in another example of a growing number of air-rail alliances being established by transport companies around the world.

Last year, Deutsche Bahn (DB) and Lufthansa celebrated the 10th anniversary of its AIRail partnership – an integrated air/rail service connecting high-speed ICE services from Cologne, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart to Frankfurt Airport.
