Eurostar and Deutsche Bahn (DB) have announced a new ticketing partnership which will open up some of Germany’s biggest cities to cross-channel rail users.

For the first time, rail passengers will be able to book tickets to Aachen, Cologne, Bonn, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt or Munich through Eurostar.

Travelling on a single ticket, passengers will be able to change at Brussels Midi onto a high-speed ICE service without needing to purchase an additional ticket from DB.

Eurostar has said the new service will not allow passengers to reserve seats beyond Brussels.

Nick Mercer, commercial director for Eurostar, said: “With over six million passengers currently travelling by air between London and Germany each year, we see huge potential to encourage more travellers to make the switch from air to high-speed rail.”

Mercer also hinted at the introduction of more routes and services in 2014: “As we enter our twentieth year of operation, we’ll be making many more announcements over the coming months including new routes, extra services and importantly, our new fleet of trains.”
