Mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin has confirmed that the new northern section of the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya line will open between 2014/15.
Sobyanin made the announcement following a visit to Petrovsko-Razumovskaya metro station – one of six new stations being built on the 10.3-kilometre extension.
Contractors had hoped to have completed the new line by the end of 2014, but Sobyanin said that despite having 6,000 workers on site, a lack of resources, technical issues and “inadequate management” meant the project had fallen behind schedule in a number of areas.
“We need a bigger workforce, additional equipment and extra attention because the construction here is very complicated,” Sobyanin said in a statement published online.
Built in 1995, the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya line was the first new metro line to be constructed following the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
Work began on the extension in 2011. Construction work is being completed in two phases, from Maryina Roshcha station to Petrovsko-Razumovskaya and from Petrovsko-Razumovskaya to Seligerskaya.
