Russian Railways (RZD) has committed RUB 16 billion in 2014 to the reconstruction of the final phase of the Smaller Moscow Belt Railway.
Planned works this year include the reconstruction of 95 kilometres of railway, installation of over 3000 OLE structures and 64 kilometres of communication line and 225 kilometres of modern signalling.
Moscow’s deputy head of construction believes passenger services will start on the city’s Smaller Moscow Belt Railway in 2015.
Moscow City Government’s press service quoted Pyotr Aksyonov who said he was confident work would be completed next year during an interview with state-owned radio station Moscow FM.
The railway, which was built between 1902 and 1908, originally supported passenger services, stopping at 17 stations around the city centre.
Over RUB 20 billion has already been spent on the project, which is being jointly funded by RZD, Moscow’s city government and the state.
