SNCF is to begin a roll out of free Wi-Fi across 128 of its stations.

From the end of March, passengers will be able to connect to the internet for free at Lille-Flandres and Avignon TGV before the service is extended to 40 stations around Paris later in the summer.

By 2015, 128 stations across the network will provide free Wi-Fi through operators Nomosphère and WiFi Metropolis.

Rachel Picard, general manager of Gares & Connexions, believes SNCF is the first operator in Europe to offer such an extensive complementary Wi-Fi service.

If successful SNCF has said it will look at expanding the service to more of the 3,000 stations it manages.
