Tutor Perini awarded $844m East Side Access contracts

Contractor Tutor Perini has won two new contracts worth a combined $844 million to fit out a new tunnel system beneath New York.

The first contract ($294 million) includes the concrete lining, interior structures and fit-out of the new tunnels constructed as part of the East Side Access project. Work is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2014 and be completed in 2017.

MTA is spending $8 billion extending the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) to new station beneath Grand Central Terminal.

The second contract ($550 million) covers the interfacing of systems.

Much of the work will be carried out by Tutor Perini’s subsidiaries Frontier-Kemper Constructors and Five Star Electric.
